Western Australia's leading home building group, BGC, has today announced a new initiative to educate homebuyers on energy and cost saving measures in their new homes.
In partnership with the Sustainable Energy Association of Australia (SEA), all of BGC’s new home customers will be given advice on how to operate their homes in a more energy efficient way and in turn, save money.
Launching the guide, ‘Your 6-Star Guide to operating an energy efficient home’, BGC and SEA have combined strengths, aiming to extend affordability beyond the purchase price and into the running costs of a new home.
BGC’s Executive General Manager, Kelvin Ryan says, “Across our group of housing companies we took a supporting position on ‘6-star’ design standards for energy efficiency because we knew it would help home owners save money in the long run, as well as having an environmental return.
“This latest initiative goes beyond the design and construction of the home and into fit-out and operation to help our customers get the best performance out of their new home.”
Recently appointed Chief Executive Officer of SEA, Kirsten Rose, recognises the importance and demand for information to be made available.
“Homes are now built to be more energy efficient than ever, which is an important step forward for both affordability and the environment. “The information in this guide will make a real difference in helping people use energy wisely in their new homes.
Not only does energy efficiency save the household money, it contributes to reducing our greenhouse gas emissions.” The production of the guide stemmed from BGC’s commitment to provide affordable housing to Western Australians through the use of innovative design methods and its own integrated supply chain of quality building materials.
“Extending affordability from the construction of the home into the operating costs was a natural extension of BGC’s vision,” said Mr Ryan.
In 2011, BGC and SEA also published the guide ‘Your 6-Star Guide to building an energy efficient home’ in an effort to dispel some of the myths surrounding the introduction of more stringent design regulations.
